Klamath Irrigation District Recall

Put Klamath back in KID!

“There appears to be a substantial objective basis to believe that one or more violations of the executive session provisions of Oregon public meeting law may have occurred … when the board of directors of the Klamath Irrigation District discussed topics not authorized for executive session.” Oregon Government Ethics Commission, July 2016.

How To Vote

As the day for the first two recall elections draw near, many Klamath Irrigation District patrons have been asking how they can vote. This short primer should give all KID patrons the information they need to make sure they are not only registered, but able to vote in the upcoming elections.

First, all eligible patrons must make sure they’re registered to vote with the Klamath Irrigation District office. If you’re not sure if you’re registered to vote, you can call the office at 541.882.6661 between 8 am and 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, or stop by the office located at 6640 KID Lane, Klamath Falls, OR 97603.  If you are not registered to vote, you will need to stop by and register to vote before the KID recall election.

Next, you need to vote. The date for the recall election of Zone 1 representative Ken Smith and Zone 2 representative and board chairman Brent Cheyne is Wednesday, October 12th, 2016 from 7 am to 8 pm. Unless  you are already registered to vote by mail, you must show up at the KID office to vote.  It is likely too late to register for an absentee ballot, but if you are voting by absentee ballot the completed ballot must be received in the District office by 8 pm on October 12th. If you have requested an absentee ballot within five days of the recall election, you will have to pick up the ballot at the KID office.

For the recall election of Zone 3 representative Vice Chairman Grant Knoll, the date is set for Monday, November 7th, 2016 from 7 am to 8 pm. There is still time to fill out a request for absentee ballot for this recall election, and if the request is received within five days of the recall election, the absentee ballot will have to be picked up at the KID office. All absentee ballots will need to be received at the KID office no later than 8 pm, November 7th.

If you’re curious about which Zone you’re located in, please see our Klamath Irrigation District Zones Map.

If you’re interested in learning more about how the election will work, KID has provided a six-page document called “Klamath Irrigation District Election Procedure” to give all the necessary details about how the election will work.

The most important aspect for the voters in this recall election is to ensure you’re registered and then to make sure you either go to the KID office to vote or make sure your absentee ballot is dropped off no later than 8 pm of election day.  And if you have any questions, please fill out the form below.
